Grand Seiko Heritage Collection 62GS Mechanical 30mm STGK031 and STGK033
Grand Seiko unveils the 30mm STGK031 and STGK033, new 62GS models inspired by early spring cherry blossoms.

In 1967, Grand Seiko introduced the 62GS, its first watch to feature automatic winding. With distinctively curved case sides and a bezel-free construction, the 62GS featured a seamless integration of its case and crystal, allowing for a wide-open view of the dial that enhanced overall legibility.

The design would go on to become one of the most recognizable in the Grand Seiko catalog, and to this day mechanical and Spring Drive variations of the 62GS are staples of the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection.

Today, Grand Seiko introduces two new 62GS models with elegantly sized 30mm stainless steel cases.

Inspired by Early Spring Cherry Blossoms

Each new model takes inspiration from early spring cherry blossoms in northern Japan.

With its pink dial, the STGK031 takes inspiration from sakura-kakushi, in which cherry blossoms are hidden beneath a delicate blanket of early spring snow. This phenomenon, observed in the region home to the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, produces a beautiful effect and demonstrates the fluidity of the seasons as winter appears to reclaim spring.

The silvery patterned dial of the STGK033 exhibits the beauty of cherry blossoms on a moonlit night in early spring. In northern Japan, extreme temperature shifts from day to night often result in a foggy, misty ambiance that creates a diffusely moonlit sky. Sakura-tsukiyo describes the beauty of cherry blossoms illuminated by this gently blurred evening light.

Created with compact dimensions, STGK031 and STGK033 are the slimmest automatic Grand Seiko timepieces today at 10.5mm and are powered by Grand Seiko’s smallest automatic mechanical movement, Caliber 9S27.

The beauty of Caliber 9S27 can be enjoyed through each watch’s sapphire crystal case back. Measuring 20mm in diameter and 4.49mm tall, Caliber 9S27 achieves excellent performance despite its small size. Created through MEMS engineering, its escape wheel is designed to resemble a five-petaled flower, ensuring the floral design theme is integrated into even the smallest details.

Each watch features a case and matching bracelet crafted from stainless steel and is water-resistant to 10 bar.

Both new watches will be available at Grand Seiko boutiques and select retailers in April 2025.
